Londoff Takes First at the Lindenwood Open
The Lindenwood men’s wrestling team had several strong performances at the 11th-annual Lindenwood Open on Saturday, including graduate students Gavin Londoff’s first-place finish in the 165-pound bracket in the open division. sophomore Austin Raynor took second place in the 184-pound freshman/sophomore bracket.
Londoff, the Lake St. Louis native, went 4-0 on the day, recording victories over competitors from Eureka College, the University of Missouri, Northwestern, and McKendree in his last competition inside Hyland Arena. In the championship match, Londoff faced off against McKendree’s Corey Peterson, as the match was quite a close one for the entire bout. There were zero points drawn in the first period of play, but in the second period Londoff scored a point by escaping at the 1:54 mark. In the third period, Londoff sealed his victory by riding time to win by decision 2-0.
Other top performances came from New Jersey native Raynor who placed second in his respective weight class, going 4-1 on the day. Freshman Caiden Pelc, who placed fifth in the 133-pound freshman/sophomore division, went 4-2 on the day. Raynor won by major decision in his first match (11-3), won by decision in his second match (6-2), won by fall in his third (Fall 3:10), and succeeded in a noble effort by sudden death. in his fourth match versus Central Oklahoma’s Kohner Gallagher in an 8-6 victory. In the championship match, Raynor put out a valiant effort against an unattached wrestler in Garrett Wells, losing by fall at 2:52.
The Lions will take the Thanksgiving weekend off and return to action with several wrestlers headed to Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky, on Wednesday, November 30.
