Odisha govt to develop app for visually impaired students for math and science


Bhubaneswar, Nov 19: Odisha government has decided to develop an app for visually impaired students to teach mathematics and science.

The special app developed by IIIT Bangalore and the vision-impaired organization will help students in learning mathematics and science in high schools.

The Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department of the Odisha government will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIIT Bangalore and the vision-impaired organization for the development of the app.

Visually impaired students up to Class-X are learning through Braille and the school and the Board of Secondary Education is providing them grace marks in mathematics and science in the Class-X examination which is affecting them in getting quality education in +2 Science.

After the development of the app, the Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department will train the visually impaired students and teachers how to use the app, said minister Ashok Chandra Panda.

Hundreds of students are passing the matric examinations every year in the state. The app will help them in pursuing higher education, said the minister.
