This Week In Jacksonville Athletics – Jan. 30 – Feb. 5
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- It’s a busy week on the campus of Jacksonville University as two spring sports start their seasons and men’s and women’s basketball both host opponents at Swisher. A total of five Dolphin teams are in action, with four of them competing in Jacksonville.
Men’s Basketball

February 2: vs. North Florida, 7 PM – Trueval Night
- Men’s basketball hosts North Florida on Thursday for the River City Rumble at 7 pm
- The Dolphins swept the Ospreys last season for the first time since the 2017-18 season
- Osayi Osifo is coming off one of his best weeks as a Dolphin, scoring 14 points and grabbing seven boards at North Alabama last Thursday and then posting his first double-double of the season on Saturday at Central Arkansas, with a career-high 17 points and 11 rebounds He has scored in double-figures in a career-long five consecutive games
- JU heads to UNF Arena on Saturday for the second of the two Rumble matchups this week
Women’s Basketball

Feb 2: vs. Florida Golf Coast, 1 PM – Wear Green
Feb 4: vs. Stetson, 1 PM – Social Media Day
- This past weekend the Dolphins split 1-1 in the River City Rumble against North Florida.
- Jacksonville takes on FGCU Thursday at 1pm in Swisher Gymnasium
- The Dolphins return to Swisher to play Stetson at 1pm Saturday.
Men’s Lacrosse

Feb 4: vs. Johns Hopkins, 7 PM – Dolphin Beach Party
- The nationally ranked men’s lacrosse team starts their season on Saturday, Feb. 4 against Johns Hopkins. The team was ranked 18th in the country by USA Lacrosse and Inside Lacrosse
- The team won an historic 14 games last season and has three preseason All-Americans in Cole Daninger, Dylan Watson and Max Waldbaum (Inside Lacrosse).
- Saturday’s theme, Dolphin Beach Party, includes a Student Beer Garden, tailgate games and giveaways.
Men’s Golf

Jan. 30-31: Sea Best Invitational at TPC Sawgrass Dye’s Valley
- Men’s golf kicks off its spring season with its signature home event, the annual Sea Best Invitational
- The field includes such heavyweights as Florida, Liberty, Louisville, Lipscomb, North Florida and more
- The event is at the Dye’s Valley course, the sister course of the world-renowned Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, home of The Player’s Championship each March.
- JU posted a third-place finish in the Streamsong Invitational back in the fall, with three players, Joseph Sullivan, Alexandre Vandermoten and Philip Raza, finishing in the top-10 of the event. Additionally, Jack Neill registered a top-10 at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate
- After competing in the Sea Best Invitational, the team heads across the road to Sawgrass Country Club for The Hayt, hosted by North Florida. The tournament begins with 36 holes on Sunday and runs through Monday.
